German Lawmaker to Dismiss Assistant Arrested on Spying Charges
Aide to Far-Right MEP Accused of Espionage
Investigation Ongoing into Suspect's Activities
A prominent German far-right lawmaker has announced that he will dismiss an assistant who was arrested on suspicion of spying. The aide, a 43-year-old man identified as Jian G, is alleged to have been working for the Chinese government while assisting an MEP from the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
According to German media reports, the suspect was arrested after an investigation by the Federal Prosecutor's Office. An investigating judge from the Federal Court of Justice has ordered the search of the offices of the AfD MEP in connection with the case.
The lawmaker, whose name has not been released, dismissed the assistant last month following his arrest. However, both the German government and the European Parliament are reportedly investigating the matter further.
