Mavs Fall in Opener of NBA Finals Rematch
The Boston Celtics kicked off their NBA Finals rematch against the Dallas Mavericks with a dominant 138-110 victory at the TD Garden on January 22, 2024. Luka Doncic's triple-double effort wasn't enough as the Celtics extended their winning streak to 10 games.
Jayson Tatum led the way for Boston with a game-high 33 points, while Jaylen Brown added 26. Robert Williams III contributed with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds.
Doncic, the reigning Rookie of the Year, finished with 29 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Mavericks. However, Dallas struggled to match Boston's intensity, shooting just 41.5% from the field.
The Celtics controlled the game from the opening tip, leading by as many as 25 points in the first half. They held the Mavericks to just 38.9% shooting in the first two quarters and forced 10 turnovers.
Dallas made a push in the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to single digits. But the Celtics responded with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring the Mavericks 31-20 to seal the victory.
The teams will meet again in Game 2 of the series on January 24 in Dallas. The Mavericks will look to bounce back, while the Celtics aim to extend their winning streak and take a commanding lead in the series.
