Man City's Pre-Season Tour of the United States Gets Off to a Rough Start

Citizens Lose 4-3 to Celtic in First Match

Plenty of Academy Stars Get Valuable Playing Time

Manchester City's pre-season tour of the United States got off to a disappointing start with a 4-3 defeat to Celtic in North Carolina. Despite fielding a team with plenty of academy stars, the Citizens were unable to match the sharpness of their Scottish opponents.

Celtic took the lead early in the first half through a deflected effort from Liel Abada. City equalized just before the break through a stunning strike from Cole Palmer, but Celtic regained the lead just minutes later through Kyogo Furuhashi.

The second half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams creating chances. City leveled the scores once again through Riyad Mahrez, but Celtic took the lead for the third time through David Turnbull. Liam Delap pulled City level once more, but Celtic snatched a late winner through Giorgos Giakoumakis.

Despite the defeat, there were some positives for City. Academy stars Palmer, Delap, and Josh Wilson-Esbrand all impressed with their performances. City will be hoping to bounce back in their next match against Club America on July 20.
