Minnesota Unveils New State Flag and Seal
A Symbol of Renewal and Progress
After years of debate and controversy, Minnesota officially unveiled its new state flag and seal on Tuesday. The new flag features a white eight-pointed star against a dark blue background, replacing the old flag's controversial depiction of Native Americans.
A Fresh Start for Minnesota
The new flag was designed by a team led by artist Leon Christian and is intended to symbolize Minnesota's rich past, vibrant present, and hopeful future. The eight-pointed star represents the state's position as the "Star of the North," while the dark blue background evokes the state's many lakes and rivers.
The new seal, which will be used on official state documents, features a similar design to the flag, with the addition of the state motto "L'Étoile du Nord" ("The Star of the North") and the year of Minnesota's statehood (1858).
A Lasting Impression
The adoption of the new state flag and seal marks a significant milestone in Minnesota's history. The new symbols represent a fresh start for the state, leaving behind the controversy of the old flag and embracing a more inclusive and progressive future.
