Blue Jays prospect Davis Schneider finally gets the hit he's been searching for

From Vancouver to Dunedin, Schneider's journey to the first hit of his pro career

Davis Schneider, a 21-year-old infielder in the Blue Jays organization, had not collected a hit in his first 34 professional at-bats. He'd walked five times and was hit by a pitch once, but the hit column remained empty.

Schneider's struggles

Schneider, a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft, was hitting .269/.361/.473 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs in his final season at the University of California, Berkeley. But he struggled to make consistent contact in his first taste of professional baseball, striking out 20 times in those 34 at-bats.

Continued hard work and determination

Schneider kept working hard, taking extra batting practice and studying film. He knew that he had the ability to hit, and he was determined to prove it.

The breakthrough

On May 12, 2023, Schneider finally got the hit he was looking for. It was a single to left field off of Dunedin Blue Jays reliever Luis Quinones. Schneider said it was a "huge relief" to finally get that first hit out of the way.

"It's been a tough start to my pro career, but I never gave up on myself," Schneider said. "I knew that I could hit, and I just needed to keep working hard. I'm glad I was finally able to get that first hit out of the way."

Schneider's hit was a big moment for him, and it's a sign that he's starting to find his footing in professional baseball. He's a talented player with a lot of potential, and he's only going to get better as he continues to gain experience.
