Celtics set to defend NBA title in Game 1 of Finals

Boston hosts Dallas for series opener

Celtics seek to establish winning tradition

The Boston Celtics will have a chance to defend their NBA title when they host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday night. The Celtics come into the series riding a wave of momentum after winning the Eastern Conference Finals over the Miami Heat in seven games. They will be looking to continue their winning ways against a Mavericks team that is playing in its first Finals since 2011.

The Celtics will be led by reigning NBA Finals MVP Jayson Tatum, who has been averaging 27.2 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game in the playoffs. He will be joined by fellow All-Star Jaylen Brown and veteran point guard Marcus Smart.

The Mavericks will be hoping to pull off an upset behind the play of superstar Luka Doncic. The 23-year-old Slovenian point guard is averaging 28.6 points, 9.2 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game in the playoffs and will be looking to lead the Mavericks to their first NBA title since 2011.
